Gull Lake is a large lake in Central Alberta, Canada. It is a popular recreational lake with its southern shores boasting large sandy beaches and clear water help contribute to its popularity, the lake is heavily used on warm, sunny weekends. Gull Lake offers the finest in camping, boating, water sports, fishing, golfing and other recreational activities. Gull Lake is centrally located between Edmonton and Calgary and lies in two counties, Ponoka County and Lacombe County. It has a total surface of 80.6 square kilometers (31.1 sq. mi), and a maximum depth of 8 meters (26 ft). It has a catchment area of 206 km2 (79.5 sq mi). Several area streams including Birch Bay Creek and Wilson Creek flow into Gull Lake. Its waters drain through a creek into the Blindman River and then in the Red Deer River. Golf Courses in the Area

Set in cottage country, the community of Sunnyside, Gull Lake Golf course is a popular executive par three golf course capable of delivering a high level of challenge for golfers of all abilities. Because of its location on the beautiful northwest side of the lake, golfers are presented with spectacular views from just about every hole. Played in 1½–2 hours, the more experienced golfer has the challenge to par the course and work on their short game. The beginner golfer can enjoy the shorter holes, ability to see the entire hole and learn to golf in a relaxed, family atmosphere. The holes range from 120 to 213 yards in length, and the greens tend to be small and rolling. An ability to hit long, accurate irons is a necessity to score well on this course.

Within 1/2 hour Drive are several top notch Golf courses, including Wolf Creek near Ponoka.

How do I get there?

The lake is accessed west of Ponoka on Highway 53 to get to the north side, or west of Lacombe on Highway 12 to reach the southern shores.

Any Beaches?

Yes, several but main is Aspen provincial beach on the Southern Shoreline.

How’s the fishing?

Gull Lake is used moderately for sport fishing, but there is no commercial or domestic fishery. Northern pike and walleye are the most sought-after sport fish, although lake whitefish are also present in the lake. Walleye have been stocked in Gull Lake in recent years. The diversion canal into the lake is closed to fishing year-round; there are no specific fishing regulations for the lake, but provincial limits apply (Alta. For. Ld. Wild. 1989). Ice fishing is very popular on the northern shores of Gull Lake
